Xook is a software system that makes it possible to visualize archaeological data spatially and temporaly in the Google Earth browser.

This little demo is my first stab at video production and storytelling, and so it is pretty rough in spots, but it tells the story of how the 6th century Maya polity of Tikal’s cultural influenced waned over a 100 year period during which its rivals Calakmul and Caracol soared to dominance.

This demo highlights some of the temporal and spatial rendering capabilities of the “1.1 version” of the software. Xook 2.0 - a fully web enabled modeling platform is in development (and is the purpose of this blog).

Thanks for checking it out, would appreciate any meaningful feedback/discussion.
